In
December 2000 concerned citizens formed the Revelstoke for a Safe
Trans-Canada Highway organization. Our goal is simple - to convince
Victoria and Ottawa that they must stop talking and start fixing the
highway.
This
part of Canada's national highway was finished in April 1962 and the
Three Valley and Kicking Horse pass sections were not built to safety
standards of the day. There have been no major improvements since then
even though the amount of traffic now using this section of the
highway is five times what it was almost 40 years ago. That includes
not just family cars, but also heavy freight transports and tour
buses.
We
need a national highway that protects the lives of people using it. We
need a Trans-Canada Highway designed to meet the traffic needs of
today, not yesterday. Over the last 20 years, Revelstoke and other
communities along this section of the highway have heard nothing but
excuses from both Victoria and Ottawa. It is now time to fix the
highway!
Please,
take a few moments and look through this website. Then ask yourself
which costs more: fixing the highway or adding to the number of dead
and injured from accidents on the Trans-Canada.
Then
contact us about how you can help... |
